Russell Simmons Brings Attention to World Aids Day

russell simmons promoting world aids day checks a diamond in BotswanaRussell Simmons has spoken out on world aids day as he visits Botswana and South Africa (seen inspecting a diamond in Botswana here).

Simmons and his delegation has discovered more and more Africans have been trained to sort, cut and polish diamonds, thereby taking part in a greater part of the diamond pipeline process. Simmons is there on a recon. mission for Simmons Jewelly Co.

While in South Africa he made a statement on World AIDS day.

The disease has made an impact in the hip-hop community with the deaths of West Coast rhymesayer Eazy E and X-Clan member Sugar Shaft.

Simmons believes the problem of HIV and AIDS in South Africa will be alleviated when…

“much more is done to effectively end poverty in Africa and throughout the world.” ”

“The best way to end poverty is through sustainable economic development and empowerment,” Simmons said.

Simmons is visiting South Africa and Botswana to explore how his company and the diamond industry can empower the lives of African people and communities where diamonds are a natural resource

“Today is World AIDS Day and I am humbled to be present in Africa where the pandemic of HIV/AIDS is a deadly reality for millions of people.

We need to increase public awareness campaigns throughout the world on this issue.

We support the efforts of the numerous humanitarian and health groups, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations, that are diligently dedicated in their response to this great human crisis.

We add our voice and work in complete solidarity with all who are standing up and taking action on this day.

Ultimately, however, we believe that the eradication of HIV/AIDS will happen when much more is done to effectively end poverty in Africa and throughout the world.

The best way to end poverty is through sustainable economic development and empowerment.”

Simmons is as busy as ever after his recent estrangement to his wife Kimora Lee Simmons.
